Shastras describe Sri Krishna as the protector of cows. Devotees of Krishna serve the cows because it pleases their beloved Krishna. Selfless service, sevå, means an action meant only for the satisfaction of the one served – and service is, in fact, the very definition of love itself in bhakti. Because of their unique lovable qualities, cows are extremely dear to the Supreme Lord, Sri Krishna, who spent his youth serving the cows and calves of Vṛndāvan.
The Vedas with their six limbs and the pada and krama, reside in the mouth of cow. On the horns Hari and Kesava always stay together. …A mortal who everyday bathes and touches a cow, gets relieved from all major sins. He who holds by on his head the dust raised by the hoofs of the cows, has (indeed) bathed in all the sacred places and is free from all sins. (Padma Purana, Srishti Khanda, 48.157-166)

In the heart of Sri Haridāsa Niwas, a sanctuary for the soul and a haven for devotion, the enchanting tale of Go Seva unfolded with the arrival of Pushpa, a majestic white cow whose presence echoed divinity. Her dewlap, as soft as a cotton ball, whispered tales of grace, and her demeanor mirrored the gentleness of a lamb. Pushpa was a gift from Vaidya Ramnarayan ji, a luminary of Ayurveda. But Pushpa wasn’t just any cow; she was a chosen emissary of beauty, an embodiment of benevolence and tranquility – two qualities for which the Vedic scriptures have deified cows.
Maharaj ji, a revered Vedic scholar and devoted Vaishnava, elevated Pushpa beyond a mere presence. To him, she embodied celestial grace and tranquility, becoming the cherished living abode of Sri Krishna. Maharaj ji, with hands steeped in the wisdom of ancient scriptures, dedicated himself to the tender care of Pushpa
Each morning, as dawn painted the sky, Maharaj ji personally attended to Pushpa’s needs, bathing her and offering a feast of the finest grains, including the sweet indulgence of jaggery tailored to her palate. Guided by Maharaj ji’s benevolent hands, Pushpa enjoyed leisurely strolls, her gentle demeanor mirroring the tenderness of a lamb. As time unfolded, Pushpa evolved into a symbol of strength and vitality, radiating a divine gleam from her white coat. She not only assumed the role of matriarch to an expanding family but also became a beacon of love and fertility. Maharaj ji, the diligent caretaker, marked the arrival of each new offspring with elaborate feasts, joyous ceremonies, and the melodious strains of Vedic chants, thus creating a living legacy that thrives in the sacred grounds of Sri Haridāsa Niwas.
